— too bold, too big, to far: Unrealized artworks become visible. Artists from all over connect.
While mobility is restricted, borders and distances are clearly perceptible and existential uncertainties
are omnipresent, more artistic works than ever remain in the state of planning. Whether it fails due to
lack of time, space or money or accompanies your artistic work for years as bold dream — we are looking
for your projects, which have not (yet) made it beyond their state as an idea, concept, draft or prototype.
With this exhibition we want to open up a space and visibility in terms of concepts, sketches, drafts, plans
and photographs. These papers will be presented at the art space BLECH. in Halle, Germany.
At the same time, despite current challenges and immobility, this format allows to present
and bring international artists together. Since many things cannot take place on location and in person,
there will be an online programm additional to the exhibtion. For an exchange and encounters, the
participating artists and their work will be presented and discussed on a digital platform.

Cihangir Gümüştürkmen
ABOUT
The art works of the artist Cihangir Gümüştürkmen, born in Izmir, resident of Berlin since 1977, consist of a variety of different works from paintings and sculptures to photo, video and performance pieces. Whether in his vibrantly coloured collages, reminiscent of Pop Art, his traditional mirror images , or in his latest works, hyperrealist oil-paintings, Gümüştürkmen expresses himself freely across all artistic periods and disciplines.

STATEMENT
I create works of art in various fields, such as painting, sculpture, ceramics, collage and video. Currently I paint artists, e.g. visual artists, singers, performers, actors and writers, for a series called “Persona”. Starting with a photo I take of each artist, I try to explore the field between their public image and a more private, real “me” of them. The artist’s personality and my intuition set the frame and help me choosing a painting technique. I understand these paintings as a kind of “painted snapshot” – a short moment which reveals a hidden or not well-known facet of the artist and thus inviting the beholder to take a closer look.
We asked ...
How do you record your ideas for new works and projects?
I have an idea booklet where I write and sketch my ideas.
What does failure mean for your artistic work?
I think that failure in life is always part of it, without failure you can't have any experiences, it is important for me that you see failure in a positive way.
How does it feel for you as an artist not to be able to realize an artwork?
This varies a lot depending on the idea and heart and soul. It would feel good if some of them could be realized.
